D-Day
The Experience
Follow a father and son from the docks of Dartmouth to the liberation of Sainte-Mère-Église as they fight to free a people in this shared immersive experience.
Visitors witness the scale of the operation first-hand, watch General Eisenhower make the decision to go, and travel with soldiers across the sea and into enemy territory. Interwoven archival audio and video footage helps bring the true struggle behind the story to life. The experience tries to balance the reality of war with the fight for freedom as it wrestles with the meaning of heroism in historic times.

The Work
Designing the narrative and writing the script for D-Day required a deep understanding of the details of the day itself as well as the larger historical context that made the operation necessary. I had to craft a story that would be historically accurate, narratively compelling, and appropriate for range of ages and audiences.
The scale of the story is immense, so focusing on a father and son helped focus the audience’s attention and emotional engagement. It also allowed the experience to lean into the complexity of war, seeing the battle from conflicting perspectives.
I designed interactive moments to give visitors a greater sense of involvement in the day’s events without actively engaging in conflict. And I compiled specific archival audio and video footage to set the stage for the experience’s underlying message.
